Only BJJ player to ever pull off a lapel choke in a no-gi tournament. Constantly innovating.

The man is brilliant. Under his tutelage you go from zero to rero (see what I did there).

Master Renato Laranja knocked out Scotch Epstein and choked out Eddie Bravo in his own gym. He has superior strength from fruits and vegetables.

After training with Master Laranja I went home and told my mom I just trained with the most handsome light skinned black man with the most beautiful black gi made in Brazil, it was like seeing Jesus. This man teach you more then just Jiu-Jitsu, he teach you about life. We do not need a website to tell us Master Laranja is the best teacher in the world because the proof is in the pudding.

Professor Laranja has changed my life. With his teachings not only are you getting some of the best gi instruction there is to offer, but you get keen insight into the ways of the world. I guess a lot of that comes from being poor as a child and learning things the hard way. When Master Laranja tapped out Eddie Bravo, it was a victory for REAL BJJ all over the worlch.

I think he over uses the oil check. He goes for it whether he’s on top or bottom and frankly, 2 fingers is just too much. I heard he tried to oil check Eddie in their infamous match at Eddie’s school and Eddie snapped his fingers off with his boy-like butt cheeks. I heard Eddie has Renato’s fingers mounted on a plaque in his office to this day.

Renato won the Mundials 27 times in his weight and the absolutes submitting every one of his opponents including the referees. Who else has done that? He was talking about the power of fruits and vegetables before it was cool. He not only is a great competitor but a great teacher. He warned me about listening to too much Boyz 2 men and H Kelly. For that, I owe him everything. Caralho.

Probably the single greatest exponent of the art of Jiu Jitsu. Professor Laranja conveys a credibility to the art far beyond the accomplishments of any other practitioner and has established an overall legitimacy that all who study Jiu Jitsu, Brazillian or non-Brazillian, call reside with and be proud of.

They are arranging a superfight for the 2012 Pan Ams between Renato Laranja and Art Marshall. They are still working out the rules of the fight, but if it goes absolute no holds barred, my money is on Art Marshall.

Before the filming of Big Trouble in Little China, whilst eating fruits and vegetables, Prof. Laranj encountered Lo Pan and killed him via warmup drills. All scenes in the movie were made using old footage.
