I am honored to have received my Black Belt under Master Rigan Machado. He is truly a living legend. I’ve learned so much from him; it’s impossible to put in words. His technique and pressure that he applies is so phenomenal that it’s hard to believe one man can be so good. My only wish is to be as half as good as my instructor one day…Thanks again SIR!!!!

Best of the best, a true Jiu-jitsu master, humble, generous and always supporting his Black Belts and other students. Knows the original and new Jiu-jitsu techniques, and willing to share it all, thank you Prof. Rigan Machado!

I began my training with Rigan back in 1987 – in Rio de Janeiro. Back then he was 11 times national champion – and I am only seen him improve since. I sought Rigan as my BJJ coach, not because of his phenomenal skill on the mat – but rather, for the kind of person he is. Rigan, as anyone who knows him can attest, has a heart of gold; he is the most generous and giving instructor I have ever met. Rigan is a true BJJ prodigy, yes – but his passion for wanting the very same for his students is what sets him apart from the rest. With respect John Will – Australia

I’m truly honored and blessed to have received my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Master Rigan Machado. To walk with him is to walk with a giant and true legend of BJJ. His contribution to the art is selfless and endless. He truly cares about all of his many students and Black Belts underneath him. He is leaving his legacy and mark in the BJJ world and community. We are all very lucky to be in relationship with him and learn his never ending progression of his Family Art. Me and my students are very appreciative to have him visit our Academy once or twice a year in our area. We are looking forward to his next visit soon. I can’t say enough about this man and his brothers. I will follow him until the end. TEAM MACHADO!!!

Does anyone know the truth about why Mica left the Machado brand for Gracie? Is there bad blood between them now? That would suck if they are no longer friends because of money. They are both wealthy. I would hope it wasn’t over more money with GJJ. That seems to be the biggest problem with BJJ now. Everything is about money and signing contracts.

Rigan is one of my instructors and a friend. I have met and trained with several instructors on this list and while I have nothing bad to say about any of them (seriously, they are all good people), Rigan is easily the best instructor. One of the great thing about Rigan is his absolute insistance that you look beyond your current skill set and look for ways to improve your game. Would some Judo improve your game? Great, do it! Would wrestling make you better? Awesome, get it done! His focus includes the entire experience while keeping himself firmly planted in the tradition and history of Jiu-Jitsu. @John (comment #36): As far as I know they are still on good terms.

It’s an honor to represent Master Rigan Machado here in Idaho. Not only is he a legend in Jiu-Jitsu, but one of the most giving individuals I’ve ever met and most knowledgeable Instructors I’ve ever learned from. Receiving my Black Belt directly from him was a moment in time never to be forgotten. Machado 4 Life!
