Team Combat Judo and BJJ is an outstanding and awesome environment to train in. You get coaching, and instruction from world class athletes, really friendly people on top notch mats and mat space. The academy is suited towards both the casual hobbyist and competitors wishing to compete in the combat sports of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and MMA! Mark Staniszewski is a 3rd Degree black belt in Judo and a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Grandmaster BJJ black belt Joe Moreira. His ability to teach and make sure that the students understands the knowledge surpasses most schools I have trained under. His instruction along with the other quality instructors of Combat BJJ have taken my ground game to the next level.

Team Combat BJJ is a home for it’s students, as soon as you walk through the door the first day you are treated like family. There is no better place to train martial arts than here. There are no egos and everyone from White belt to the higher ranks are very helpful in developing the best you, you can be. The instructors explain every move and tell you why they are important and explain the repercussions of performing a technique the wrong way.

Mark Stan is the man!! I came to Combat BJJ as a Purple Belt who has trained with many other teachers. I can honestly say Mark is one of the best at breaking techniques down and showing what works. The place is filled with nice people and everybody has a good attitude. It all stems from the leadership that Mak provides!!

Mark Stan is an extremely talented practitioner and teacher of Martial Art. Both BJJ and Judo. No doubt. As a teacher he has the ability to get techniques to make sense from a conceptual standpoint and then to break them down to the most intricate of detail within the movements. And he has the patience of a saint. I’ve been training martial arts steadily for 30+ years, so I know a few things about what goes into making a great teacher. Mark Stan has all the qualities you would want, and, if you’re serious, would require in a teacher of BJJ and Judo.

There are few BJJ teachers who can teach as well as have an impressive competitive record in BOTH Judo and BJJ. Not only can he effectively show you how to get the opponent to the ground but also show you what to do once you get him there. He’s a well rounded, experienced, funny and personable instructor who gives the same attention to the white belt off the street as the 3rd Black coming in from the Mundials. Team Combat is where it is at!

Sensei Mark Staniszewski is a remarkable instructor. Not only is he an avid competitor, proving his skills time and time again; he personally cares about each student and their goals in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and in Judo. I never fear being taken to the ground ever again by my opponents in competition or even scrimmaging at the club. Sensei Mark has given me and every student he works with, the tools to be a champion. Sensei Mark has encouraged us to trust our techniques in any circumstance. I personally benefit being a Women’s Self Defense instructor, where unfortunately, women can end up in a situation on the ground. Thanks to Sensei Mark, I am able to teach my students to protect themselves in various ways during a ground confrontation. Also, being an avid competitor myself in Judo, I feel more confident on the mat against an opponent. Thank you Sensei Mark for all your help and guidance. It doesn’t go unnoticed! Thank you for giving me and any woman that I work with in Self Defense the knowledge we need to protect ourselves. Thanks for giving me Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The positive environment for the training is intense but also productive. Training can get tough, but it’s rewarding to know that my technique is improving under his tutelage

I am a Pro MMA Fighter, and of all the people who have coached me over the years Mark Staniszewski is by far the best MMA/Grappling coach i have ever worked with. His unique style that combines Brazilian Jiujitsu, Judo, and Wrestling can help to improve any person whether they are fighting professionally, competing, or just looking to learn. Mark’s experience as a long time competitor combined with his knowledge of the grappling arts can help any person to improve as a grappler. Marks positive teaching style and personality makes training at Team Combat a enjoyable experience for anybody who comes to train.

Mark Staniszewski and his Team Combat staff are second to none. Whether you are a seasoned professional, someone with some bjj or judo background, or a weekend warrior looking to get some exercise, he is the instructor for you. His teaching style is hands on and he doesn’t rest until everyone in class understands the “what”, “why” and “how” of each intricate move. He can break things down into such minute detail and show different variations based on your body type. He and and his staff are THE instructors to seek out on Long Island for Judo and BJJ.

Sensei Mark takes the time to answer any questions and help you work towards your goal whether its competing as a pro MMA fighter, Judo/BJJ competitions, or just getting in shape and having a fun hobby. He is a great competitor, an awesome teacher and a very good friend to have.

Rarely will you find an instructor who can teach the theory/techniques and then show you the best way to adjust that knowledge for your own needs – be it technique or competition. Mark’s technical knowledge combined with his stellar record as an international competitor makes him a rare breed. He shares practical, hard-earned knowledge that most folks don’t show in the glossy books. You wont find a more well-rounded instructor in New York. Most important to me, he creates a compelling, unpretentious atmosphere that everybody can relate to.

Sensei Marks’ BJJ classes has always been great to attend. He is very detailed in his approach to teaching you the correct ways and technique. The fact that he can demostrate one move ,then show you 3-4 variations of it, always leaves me asking for more. Mark is an amazing teacher as well as a great person.

After traveling through out Long Island for the perfect BJJ instructor my search ended at Team Combat with instructor Mark Stan . Not only does Team Combat have exceptional training and expertise but also met my special needs. Entering into the sport with prior injuries, Mark Stan showed me alternate and customized moves that worked with my limitations so I could continue on with my training. At Team Combat they turned my weaknesses into strengths. My training was so confident with Mark Stan, I even entered a grappling competition and medaled. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever believe I could compete due to my condition. Its a memory I will cherish for the rest of my life. Team Combat has become more then a place to train, but they have become my family. Mark Stan, Team Combat Staff, and its members provide a support system that is an unique experience that no other gym can match. Mark Stans world class training of both technical and practical knowledge makes his classes valuable for beginners to experts. The most complex moves and techniques , Mark breaks down to a simplified level that just makes advanced calculus into algebra. His dedication to martial arts shines through his teaching (and in his competitions) . Leaving no stone unturned with his students, he stands by his lessons making sure everyone understands the reasoning and techniques. You always have a blast on the mat with him; not only are you receiving exceptional training from Mark Stan, but with lots of laughs. Superior training with a smile on your face, why would you go anywhere else!?!g

Over the past 5 years, I’ve tried training in at least a half a dozen different gyms and dojos, but none of them were for me. It often seemed that the instructors were only in it for the money and lacked a genuine interest, not only in their students, but in the very style they were teaching. From the first time I met Mark, I knew I would be training with him from that point on. What impressed me was his ability to create a fun, friendly environment without ever losing sight of the reason we were all there, which was to learn and train. Mark teaches techniques which he has used himself at high levels of competition, so there is no question as to whether or not his techniques work when they need to. With Mark, there’s no philosophical nonsense and no ego. He makes his students feel welcome and confident that we’re receiving quality instruction, all while putting smiles on our faces. I’m very grateful to have him as a teacher.

Professor Mark is awesome, from the day that I stepped on the mat and began learning his philosophy of Jiujitsu I was hooked. His knowledge is through the roof and has such a way breaking techniques down that you can’t help but absorb the wisdom. The environment is extremely welcoming and find Combat to be my second home. Within two months of training under professor Mark I feel that my game has tightened up significantly and developed a great understanding of bjj. It is an absolute honor to be under Professor Mark’s tutelage.

As a 23 year old with no prior martial arts or combat sport training, I was very reluctant to give Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a try. When I first walked into Marks school I was warmly greeted by many students and Mark himself. Almost instantly, I felt welcomed. Having Mark as an instructor has been great. Every class is something that has helped improve my game noticeably. Mark is always watching his students practice the materials and helps when asked or when he notices that some help can be given. And if I ever have a question to ask, Mark always has an answer. Not only is class informative but it’s a load of fun. I would most definitely recommend any student whether new or a veteran to learn from Mark.

I have known Mark for over 15 years via Judo. Being a national level Judo player I was reluctant to transition over to BJJ. I am not going to lie, learning a new martial art and becoming a white belt all over again is a challenge. However, Sensei Mark is a great BJJ instructor. In the few weeks that I have been training BJJ he has helped me make the transition with ease. He breaks down all the moves very easily making grapplers of all levels learn the right way. We live in an area of NY where there are dozens of BJJ/MMA gyms popping up and everyone claiming they are the best teacher. I am confidently saying that Mark really is one of the best BJJ instructors in the country. If you want to learn BJJ the correct way to compete at the highest level or just stay in shape come learn from Mark.

I met Mark as a result of Judo, and have watched him transform into an amazing BJJ competitor and coach. I respect the fact that he always gives 100%. His passion for the sport drives him to continue to compete, even when injured. I have seen the respect his students show him both on and off the mat. They truly value his teachings. The focus and dedication that he gives to his students makes him a coach that every competitor or martial arts enthusiast should want to train with.

I have known Mark since I began my judo career 8 years ago and I have competed against many of his students and let me tell you, when you line up against one of the Combat Judo guys, you better have your belt tied up real because you know you’re in for a battle because they have been trained by Mark Stan. A complete grappler in every sense of the word, Mark knowledge of both standing and ground techniques is outstanding and he teaches his students to blend them seamlessly Off the mat, Mark is always the first person to greet you with a large smile and strong hand shake always willing to make the time to ask how things are going and if there is anything he can do to help in your training. I highly encourage anyone in the long island area that is thinking about training to visit Team combat.

Mark Stan is a great BJJ instructor and runs a great BJJ class that I attend regularly. He starts class with warm-ups and some can mimic BJJ techniques to burn in the movements. After he shows us BJJ techniques by breaking it down and letting us ask questions. We break into partners and try it ourselves while he comes around to help as needed. Once hes taught us a few techniques we roll. We switch partners after rounds and sometimes Mark is your opponent. He makes you work hard while giving you opportunities to see what youve learned. His dojo is very large with lots of room and clean mats. In short, Sensei Mark a great BJJ instructor that enjoys the game and wants to tech you. Every month I train under Sensei Mark I see my technique getting better. Im 40 years old and it amazes me the things Ive learned from Sensei Mark.

Sensei Mark is a fantastic instructor and he provides an environment where you can learn and have a great time. Whether you are just starting in the art or have years of experience, Sensei Mark will give you the instruction you need to grasp the fundamentals or take your game to the next level. He takes techniques and breaks them down so you not only learn how to do them, but why they work in the first place. This way, he helps you make the moves your own, so you can adapt them to your game and body type. You can tell Sensei Mark loves BJJ and loves to train, and under his instruction, you can’t help but love it too.

Everyone is a family, all questions will be answered an explained however many times you ask. He has taught me not only great Brazilian ju jitsu techniques, but he also taught me how to apply my wrestling background into the mix. I couldn’t be happier with my results

I have trained with several BJJ and Judo instructors and none match the clarity and detail in Mark’s instructions. A move is broken down into several easily digestible segments and you are taught not only how to preform the technique but the theory behind it as well. A move will be shown followed by that technique’s counter. This teaching style reveals the chess-like qualities of BJJ. Mark takes the time to answer students questions and I never felt that any of his responses are rushed. I know that with his guidance I can only grow as a grappler.

I am new to training but have trained under a few different instructors, but non like Mark. His breakdown on a technique is simply amazing could be in a book bjj technique for dummies. My personal favorite thing though is he doesn’t jump around with techniques. Mark will build off a technique for both opponents, so you will learn a move and then learn to counter that and learn how to counter the second one. So basically Mark is very informative with a great teaching style and wants people to improve.

Mark’s unique insight in the art Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo is to be sought after. It’s very common for an instructor to chronologically walk you through a step by step process, but truly understanding the mechanics and weight shifts, even philosophy of a position is what sets apart a common instructor to that of Mark’s style of instruction. I feel fortunate to have found such a rich pool of knowledge.
